Renfe and the tourism company Jumbo Tours Group have signed an agreement to promote the use of the AVE among international tourists for internal mobility in Spain. The agreement has been signed at FITUR between the president of Renfe, Isaías Táboas, and the CEO of Jumbo Tours, Ginés Martínez.
Both companies estimate that there is a market niche with the potential of some 20 million foreign travellers who arrive every year in Spanish tourist cities by high-speed infrastructure.
Taking this into consideration, Renfe and Jumbo Tours are going to work to market, in the countries of origin of foreign tourists, a new product which would be included in the packages offered by travel agencies. The product will offer these international tourists transportation by AVE between holiday destinations and destinations of cultural interest throughout Spain.
The studies carried out by the two companies also estimate that there is a very important niche of tourists susceptible to benefit from this vision of a ‘cultural getaway‘, since 78% of foreign tourists who arrive in Spain are in our country for at least 4 days, while 30% stay for at least a week, with enough time, indicates the analysis carried out, to include travel packages with Renfe trains (AVE, Avlo or Alvia) to cultural destinations of interest during their stay.
Product marketed in origin
Through the signed agreement, Renfe and Jumbo Tours will work on the creation of a receptive product that can be marketed at source in the main countries whose citizens visit Spain.
Tours are going to work on the development of a pilot test this year that allows the sale, at source, of these type of packages and additional touristic and cultural offers.
